As the seasons change and everything begins to feel different, it’s been glaringly obvious that our summertime routine just isn’t going to work for us in this new, slower season. As many of our regular activities are coming to an end and our time spent outside is becoming less already, I am forced to pause, reflect and refocus on all that lies ahead.
For our family, change isn’t an easy concept and transitions often feel like a struggle. Emotions are high, sibling relationships are tense, and we all seem to be on high alert as the familiar slowly shifts into something new.
I grow tired of repeating myself, reminding the kids to grab a light jacket (& explaining WHY it’s cold, as if fall is a new idea we’ve not experienced before.), & answering the same question, over and over, about the possibility of going swimming today! (But seriously, why can’t he just accept that the pool is CLOSED?!)
Oh, and then there’s the shopping for new clothes and arguing with a 6 year old about the texture of every fabric, or “if pants are actually a requirement.” (The debate is ongoing, but he seems to be winning. )
Thankfully, the beautiful fall foliage, here in the south, serves as a great reminder that change is good and that, while we may be sad about the pool closure and having to wear long pant and socks, there are so many exciting fall activities to immerse ourselves in!
Slowing down is therapeutic and, dare I say, necessary.
Change presents brand new opportunities to explore, learn and grow together!
Letting go the familiar is bittersweet, but taking a deep breath of the fall morning air, wrapped up in my favorite cozy sweatshirt, and stopping for a few extra moments to appreciate the gorgeous trees in our yard, saturated in reds, oranges and yellows, I feel hopeful for all that is coming.
So I’m setting to new pace with an example.
“Grace, Pace, and Space”, amiright?
Today, Monday October 24th, 2022, we are committing to a “Reset” in our home.
We have agreed to unplug for 1 week (Monday to Monday), to focus on prayer and leaning into grace…to reset our pace to accommodate our new activities and routine…and refreshing our space to inspire and embrace this new season!

It is our prayer that your family thrives during this transition to slower, and we always love to hear how you guys spend this time together! Please let us know if you join us for this time of grace and reset, and feel free to share some of your family’s favorite Fall activities with us so we can give them a try as well!!
See you all on Monday, October 31st!
