His Banner Over Me Is LOVE

Yesterday I wrestled with a banner I saw in a downtown window, posted by a political group that I have previously supported & partnered with that read, “ABORTION IS MURDER!”.

Sure, there is truth that cannot be refuted, & as a Pro-Life advocate, I do agree with the facts…but is this statement really going to change hearts & minds?

It saddened me to see the ignorance on display, especially because the message is counterproductive & lacking rhetoric…only fueling division & hindering any chance at having productive conversations. Not to mention the impact on the hearts of those who are carrying the hidden shame of abortion wounds. ❤️‍🩹 If they had any inkling to reach out about what they had done, this message ensures that this will be the LAST place they’d go! 😒

For me – this came as a timely reminder that – People, no matter how good their intentions, will let you down. – We can’t place our alliance in anything except God. Our identity is in Christ, not in our political affiliation, church leaders, families, sports teams, the flag…those things are fallible.

God’s Word never fails.

Blessed are the peaceMAKERS…”  (Not “peaceKEEPERS”) – Matthew 5:9

PeaceKEEPERS avoid & minimize conflict to appease others & avoid rocking the boat, while PeaceMAKERS engage, not ignoring crucial questions and conversations, knowing that peace comes through grace AND Truth, & humbling ourselves as we have conversations to understand…not just to respond.

To make peace doesn’t mean that we can’t boldly proclaim the truth & be a voice for the voiceless, it means that we must do it in a way that still loves & honors the person on the other side as a Child of God, created in His image, no matter their view or the mean things they say to you…love them anyway. 💕

If we care more about winning arguments than we do about winning souls to Christ, we’ve lost sight of everything that matters…and we have become just like the world. 😞

So, what does your banner declare?

For access to great resources & education about how to engage the culture & have tough conversations such as the Abortion issue in your state, a great place to start is by searching your local “Right To Life” chapter to get connected with others who are already involved.
